Ourania

Series: The Ninth Muse, 2023

Ourania is one of eight original drawings I created for my solo show, The Ninth Muse, reproduced as a limited edition of six archival-quality prints. This work explores the creative and social implications of neurotechnology, drawing inspiration from the Nine Muses of ancient Greek mythology and 20th-century surrealist techniques designed to access the unconscious. Using a process similar to Dalí’s Paranoiac-critical method, I developed a series of eight collage drawings that serve as the raw material for the animated opening and closing sequences of the exhibition’s titular video piece, The Ninth Muse. The green cardstock embedded in the image acts as greenscreen, facilitating the composition of additional video elements. This particular drawing, Ourania, pays homage to the ancient Greek muse of astronomy.
